iPhone overheating problem

An iPhone can overheat during heavy tasks (camera, gaming, navigation), charging, or when a background process runs nonstop. iOS may dim the screen, slow performance, or pause charging to protect the device—those are normal safety behaviors.
The goal is to reduce load, identify the app/process causing heat, and confirm the phone isn’t stuck in a loop after an update or restore.

Why this happens:
– High CPU/GPU load from gaming, camera, or video calls.
– Charging while using heavy apps or using non-certified chargers.
– Poor signal causing the phone to work harder (cellular searching).
– A runaway app/background process after an update.

Steps to fix the issue:
Step 1: Stop the heavy workload temporarily
Path: No menu required
Action: Close camera/games, stop video calls, and let the phone rest for 5–10 minutes.
Expected result: Temperature drops and performance returns.

Step 2: Check Battery screen for background activity
Path: Settings → Battery
Action: Look for an app showing heavy ‘Background Activity’. If one stands out, update or uninstall it.
Expected result: You isolate the heat source.

Step 3: Disable Background App Refresh for the offender apps
Path: Settings → General → Background App Refresh
Action: Turn OFF for apps you don’t need running in the background.
Expected result: Fewer background tasks = less heat.

Step 4: Use certified charging and avoid charging under load
Path: Physical action
Action: Use an Apple/MFi-certified charger and avoid charging while gaming or using GPS-heavy apps.
Expected result: Charging heat is reduced and safer.

Step 5: Update iOS if the issue started after an update
Path: Settings → General → Software Update
Action: Install the latest patch version and restart.
Expected result: Thermal-related bugs are often fixed in patches.

What to touch:
– Battery usage review
– Background App Refresh
– Software updates

What NOT to touch:
– Cooling the phone rapidly (freezer/ice)
– Using unknown chargers/cables
– Continuing heavy use while the device shows temperature warnings

If the issue continues after these steps, it may require professional support.
